It’s over!

Time’s up. Please put down your pencils and hand in your papers 😘.

The scanner keeps running to upload the few pages (actually, there are far too many) that are coming in. We’re dragging this moment out. Would it have been worth an extra hour?

Around us, there’s a mix of emotions, from blissful smiles to blank stares.
But the pages are here and more will continue to arrive online tomorrow.

Twelve hours condensed into a few pages. Some are clean, but others bear the marks of the rush: a slightly sloppy panel, a blank background, a shaky signature, but that’s okay!!!

Did you like it? How was this Solstice?

3 hours left

Three hours left. Is that a lot or not much?

The tables are in varying states. Some seem to be under control, others give the impression of a shipwreck in progress. It’s hard to tell who’s bluffing and who’s really panicking.

The breaks have disappeared. Or perhaps they’ve become invisible, integrated into the process? Someone has been staring at their board for five minutes without moving. Creative block or intense reflection? Impossible to tell from the outside.

The coffee keeps flowing, but we should stop and it’s time to post the finished pages online.

Is three hours enough to finish one page? To save two? To redo everything because it’s not working after all?

We’ll see in three hours 🫣.

Half time

Halfway through the race. Six hours done, six hours to go!

It’s that weird moment. We’re less fresh, but probably not panicking yet. Just the middle, that fragile point of balance where we take stock.

So are you on schedule or did you bite off more than you can chew? It’s possible that we’ve already seen a few dropouts at this stage 😢.

The breaks are getting longer or is it me? We see students showing each other our progress, compare notes, reassure each other, or panic together... But at least, the coffee is still flowing while the snacks are disappearing.

Only six hours to go pals. It’s going by quickly and too slowly at the same time!

And, goooooo!

The clock has just started. Here we go for 12 hours of non-stop (or almost) storytelling and drawing.

The first panels are already filling up (some people had clearly prepared a little in advance?). Others are still in “okay, so... what do I do?” mode.

At this stage, everything seems pretty relaxed at first glance. The atmosphere is focused, too early to panic, but the stress is undoubtedly already there, lurking in the background.

So, we watch and wait to see who will keep up the pace and who will finish before everyone else, hoping that not too many will give up...

The coffee machine is on and will soon be dispensing its first shot of stimulants. Don’t overdo it on the snacks and other treats 😋.

See you in a few hours to see how we’re doing. Good luck, everyone! ☕

30 minutes...

It looks like the tables are kindd of ready. Blank notebooks, equipment laid out in front of us, sharpened pencils (well, some of them). In a few minutes, this beautiful order will slowly disintegrate over the next 12 hours.

The participants settle in, test their markers (this one works, that one doesn’t), adjust their chairs three times (a must). The atmosphere is silent, almost suspicious.

And of course some arrive late, we’re in an art school after all.

Someone has surely already spilled their coffee somewhere on a table. Good start 👍.

Between vague ideas and decided plans, the blank page is going to suffer ✏️.

So ti be honest, It’s a bit of pressure, but everything seems ready, and we’re working on the final organizational details to make sure this event goes smoothly!
